TAMPA, Fla. – The USL Championship announced the Team of the Week for Week 25 of the 2023 regular season on Tuesday, with Birmingham Legion FC forward Neco Brett voted the Championship Player of the Week presented by Konami eFootball after recording four goals across two appearances, including the third regular season hat trick of his career.
The Jamaican earned the award for the second time this season, having previously claimed the honor in Week 4, as he scored his first regular-season hat trick in Legion FC’s colors in a 3-1 victory against FC Tulsa last Wednesday night. Brett leveled the game in the 19th minute after Legion FC had gone behind early before adding a second two minutes later and wrapping up his hat trick in the 33rd minute, a run of three goals in 14 minutes. Brett then added his fourth goal of the week on Sunday in Birmingham’s contest against Detroit City FC, which moved him into a tie for second all-time in the Championship’s regular season history with 79 goals overall alongside current Louisville City FC forward Cameron Lancaster and Hadji Barry.
Brett earned 71 percent of the ballot to claim the award. San Diego Loyal SC forward Tumi Moshbane finished second on 21 percent after scoring twice, including a late game-winner, in his side’s 3-2 win against Rio Grande Valley FC on Saturday night.
