Week 25 in the 2023 USL Championship regular season wraps up on Sunday evening as Birmingham Legion FC tries to build on an impressive road victory in midweek against a Detroit City FC side that also came out a winner in its last outing.

Here's a look ahead at the action.

Birmingham Legion FC vs. Detroit City FC

Venue: Protective Stadium
Kickoff: 5 p.m. ET
Broadcast: ESPN+

The Lowdown: Birmingham Legion FC will look to complete a six-point week as it hosts Detroit City FC in the second meeting between the sides this season with Le Rouge looking for a season sweep to bolster their playoff aspirations. Legion FC (11-11-3, 36pts) took a 3-1 victory against FC Tulsa on Wednesday night as Neco Brett scored his first hat trick for the club – and his third in the USL Championship’s regular season – to move the side into sixth place in the Eastern Conference. Birmingham is undefeated in its last three games overall, giving it a seven-point cushion on the teams below the playoff line in the Eastern Conference, but fell 1-0 to Detroit when the sides met at Keyworth Stadium in May when Maxi Rodriguez scored the only goal of the game. Le Rouge (7-12-6, 27pts) also took a 1-0 win last Saturday night against Las Vegas Lights FC when Skage Simonsen scored his third goal of the season to lift the side to victory. DCFC starts the weekend two points behind eighth-placed FC Tulsa, and needs another three points to maintain its drive for a second consecutive postseason berth.

Spotlight Players
Birmingham Legion FC – Tabort Etaka Preston:
The Cameroonian winger made his Legion FC debut against Tulsa as a second-half substitute and could play a greater role here as he gets acclimated to his new club.

Detroit City FC – Matt Lewis: The versatile defender scored the game-winner when Le Rouge took victory in Birmingham a season ago, part of a three-game winning streak DCFC has built against Legion FC in their series.
