Miami FC’s Ryan Telfer earns Player of the Week honors after game-winning goal, strong all-around display in victory at San Antonio

TAMPA, Fla. – The USL Championship announced the Team of the Week for Week 20 of the 2023 regular season on Tuesday, with Miami FC forward Ryan Telfer voted the Championship Player of the Week presented by Konami eFootball after scoring the decisive goal and producing a strong all-around display in his side’s 1-0 victory against San Antonio FC at Toyota Field on Saturday night.

Coming off appearing for Trinidad and Tobago at the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup, Telfer provided an opportunistic finish in the seventh minute to put the visitors ahead. After Miami was reduced to 10 players three minutes later, Telfer then put in a strong shift alongside his teammates defensively, winning 8 of 12 duels and 8 of 12 aerial duels and winning four fouls as Miami not only claimed victory on the road for the first time in the league this season, but also ended San Antonio’s 24-game home regular season undefeated streak.

Telfer earned 36 percent of the ballot to claim the award. Birmingham Legion FC’s Matthew Corcoran finished second on 29 percent after the 17-year-old recorded both assists as Legion FC rallied to take a 2-1 victory on the road against Louisville City FC on Saturday night.
