CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Chattanooga Red Wolves SC announced on Friday the club had acquired attacking midfielder Jonathan Filipe on loan from USL Championship side Hartford Athletic for the remainder of the 2023 USL League One season.

“With so many injuries this season we had to look for ways to strengthen our roster and finish strong in 2023. Jonny Filipe has all the tools we feel necessary to give us a chance to make a bit of a run in the second half of the season,” said Red Wolves President & General Manager Sean McDaniel. “We are grateful to Hartford Athletic for working quickly with us to make the loan happen as we now welcome Jonny to the Red Wolves.”

A Connecticut native, Filipe played in the New York Red Bulls Academy as a youth player and recorded 10 goals in 24 appearances during the 2017-18 USSF Development Academy season. He then went on to play collegiately at Fairfield University, where he was named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic All-Rookie team as a freshman and collected 19 goals and nine assists across 59 appearances.

He also made 16 appearances and notched seven goals with the New York Red Bulls U23 squad at the USL League Two level before signing his first professional contract with USL Championship side New York Red Bulls II in 2022. He scored two goals in a 3-3 draw against his future club, Hartford Athletic on August 31, 2022.

Filipe signed with Hartford in January and has made three appearances in the USL Championship so far this season.

“I’m super excited to be here and be part of the team,” said Filipe. “I can’t wait to meet the fans and hopefully I’m able to help the team get some wins and turn this season around!”
