Rachel Viollet’s feature film about the original NASL’s remarkable rise and fall in the 1970s will inaugurate new fan event at Summer Showcase, presented by Hisense

The 2023 USL Summer Showcase, presented by Hisense, is coming to Colorado Springs August 7-10, and the annual midsummer event is getting bigger and bigger.

Building on last year’s expanded Showcase event, the USL is thrilled to launch “Soccer Film Night @ Summer Showcase,” a new fan event presented in partnership with the Independent Soccer Film Society of Colorado and the Kicking + Screening Soccer Film Festival.

The inaugural Soccer Film Night will take place on Monday, August 7, at 7:00PM MT (doors open at 6:00PM) at the Ivywild School, featuring the film BIG-TIME SOCCER: The Remarkable Rise & Fall of the NASL.

Directed by Rachel Viollet – whose father Dennis Viollet played for Manchester United and coached in the NASL – BIG-TIME SOCCER tells the incredible story of the original North American Soccer League, which ran from 1967 to 1984.

Official Synopsis:

  • Nearly 40 years since its demise, the North American Soccer League continues to linger in the memories and imaginations of soccer fans across the United States — and beyond. The colorful, oftentimes controversial league attracted some of the game’s greatest players: Pele, Best, Cruyff, Muller, Beckenbauer, to name a few. Crowds of 70,000-plus flocked to games as the NASL brought star power to a country where soccer had been virtually invisible just a few years earlier.

  • It was as if a huge soccer circus had arrived to entertain America. But it couldn’t last. For many fascinating reasons, the NASL did not survive.

Tickets are $10 in advance/$15 at the door.
