Two teams sitting in the top four of their respective conferences will square off on Friday night in a blockbuster start to the USL Championship’s weekend of action, with Memphis 901 FC looking to shake off a tough road outing last time out as it hosts defending Championship title holder San Antonio FC.
Here's a look ahead at the action.
Venue: AutoZone Park
Kickoff: 8:30 p.m. ET
Broadcast: ESPN+
The Lowdown: Memphis 901 FC will try to bounce back from its heaviest defeat in club history as it plays host to San Antonio FC, which is coming off a good victory as it heads to the Bluff City for the first time. Memphis (8-3-4, 28pts) saw its 12-game undefeated streak come to an end against Phoenix Rising FC as the side absorbed a 6-0 defeat in Arizona. Memphis conceded twice in either half as it was held scoreless in a league game for the first time this season to drop to fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings. San Antonio (7-3-7, 28pts) moved back into third place in the Western Conference, meanwhile, with a 3-1 victory against Birmingham Legion FC at Toyota Field last Saturday night in a game that saw Tanu Oluwaseyi score his team-leading fifth goal of the season alongside finishes by Jorge Hernandez and Justin Dhillon in a keenly-fought contest. SAFC took a 4-2 victory when these teams last met, a game in which Dhillon also found the net, while some other familiar pieces such as Mitchell Taintor, Connor Maloney and Mohammed Abu also remain to face a 901 FC side that will have a much different look for the second interconference clash between the clubs.
