FC Tulsa’s Phillip Goodrum claims Player of the Week after leading comeback victory with two goals, one assist

TAMPA, Fla. – The USL Championship announced the Team of the Week for Week 17 of the 2023 regular season on Tuesday, with FC Tulsa forward Phillip Goodrum voted the Championship Player of the Week presented by Konami eFootball after rallying his side to victory with two goals and one assist in a thrilling 3-2 win against Detroit City FC on Friday night.

A 2022 USL Championship All-League selection, Goodrum was acquired by Tulsa in a midseason transfer from Memphis 901 FC on May 22 and on Friday night produced his best performance yet in his new club’s colors. The 26-year-old opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the first half, and after the hosts went behind against Le Rouge at ONEOK Field, he leveled the game with a superb diving header with eight minutes to go. Goodrum then set up Marcus Epps with a backheeled assist for an 89th-minute winner for the hosts to send the club’s largest crowd this season into celebration.

Goodrum earned 67 percent of the ballot to claim the award. Orange County SC forward Thomas Amang finished second on 25 percent after recording two goals after coming on as a second-half substitute in his side’s 3-1 victory against Monterey Bay F.C. before a sold-out Championship Soccer Stadium crowd.
