LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Louisville City FC announced on Wednesday it will welcome international competition for a second time this summer with Mexican club Atlante FC set to visit Lynn Family Stadium for a friendly on Saturday, July 15. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET.

Founded more than a century ago, Atlante currently competes in the Liga de Expansión MX, Mexico’s second tier, where it recently claimed league titles in the 2021 Apertura and 2022 Apertura. The Mexico City-based club’s origins date back to 1916, it has competed internationally as recently as 2009 when earning a spot in the FIFA Club World Cup.

The LouCity-Atlante matchup will double as a showcase of authentic Mexican culture and cuisine at Lynn Family Stadium. Live music will feature in the Fan Zone, which opens at 6:30 p.m. ET at the stadium's waterfront/open end.

“We’re excited both about the sporting challenge of facing Atlante and the opportunity to bring in a team that will be popular with our Hispanic community,” said LouCity’s club president, James O’Connor. “There will be something for everyone at this game, and we look forward to a unique atmosphere at Lynn Family Stadium.”

With more than a century of history, Atlante CF is one of Mexico's historic clubs and has previously competed at the FIFA Club World Cup after winning the 2009 Concacaf Champions League.

The friendly will bring together two of the top second division clubs in North America, with Atlante having finished third in the 2022-23 Liga de Expansión MX Apertura before claiming the title in the playoffs last November. The side more recently took a second-place finish in the Clausura this spring and once again reached the final of the playoffs before falling.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming Atlante to Lynn Family Stadium,” said LouCity Head Coach Danny Cruz. “This is another opportunity for us to expose ourself to a new opponent and style of play. I firmly believe these games give us another opportunity to improve while having to solve problems on the field that we may not have seen before.

“I am excited that we were able to put this game together for our players and the city of Louisville.”

Season ticket members will receive emailed communication to reserve their regular tickets. Those who bought tickets to LouCity’s first international friendly – set for June 21 against Germany’s FC Kaiserslautern – are eligible for a discount to the Atlante game.

The general public can purchase starting immediately by visiting, calling (502) LOU-CITY or via SeatGeek. Prices start at just $12.
