San Diego Loyal SC’s Ronaldo Damus earns Player of the Week after two-goal performance in San Antonio comeback

TAMPA, Fla. – The USL Championship announced the Team of the Week for Week 13 of the 2023 regular season on Tuesday, with San Diego Loyal SC forward Ronaldo Damus voted the Championship Player of the Week presented by Konami eFootball after scoring a pair of goals after coming on as a halftime substitute in SD Loyal’s comeback to earn a 3-3 draw against San Antonio FC at Toyota Field on Saturday night.

An early-season arrival at SD Loyal this season, the Haitian international was introduced to start the second half with his side facing a three-goal deficit in Texas while up a player after a first-half red card for the hosts as they attempted to rally. Damus saw little of the ball overall – only recording 13 touches – but made the most of them as he provided the breakthrough for the visitors with 15 minutes to go on a precise long-range shot from the top of the arc of the penalty area. He then capped the comeback in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time with a flicked header off a corner to grab his side a point on the road.

Damus earned 67 percent of the ballot to claim the award. Orange County SC’s Milan Iloski finished second on 17 percent as he recorded an early goal and assist in his side’s 2-0 victory at home to Rio Grande Valley FC on Saturday night at Championship Soccer Stadium.
