ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico United announced on Saturday night the departure of Head Coach Zach Prince, who will leave the club for a new coaching opportunity having served as United’s manager since the start of the 2022 season.

Prince joined New Mexico United prior to the club’s inaugural 2019 season as First Assistant Coach, immediately putting his stamp on the club as a leader. On November 15, 2021, Prince was named the second Head Coach in club history. During his tenure, he guided the team to numerous achievements and played an instrumental role in shaping the club’s identity both on and off the pitch.

“Zach came here in 2018 and helped build our club from scratch,” said United Owner/President Peter Trevisani. “He said yes to whatever was asked of him, from camps to the United Academy, as First Assistant to Troy Lesesne, and as Head Coach/Technical Director. Zach is a living example of the mantra ‘Hard work and action pay off.’

“He led our team to the postseason and has created a foundation upon which we will build. We will miss Zach, his wife Alex, and their two children, and we are excited for their future.”

In his time as Head Coach/Technical Director, Prince accumulated 23 victories. Under his guidance, United returned to the USL Championship Playoffs in 2022 after missing the postseason the prior season, and did so earning the most points, most goals scored, and highest goal differential in club history.

This season, United reached the Round of 32 in the 2023 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

New Mexico will undertake a thorough search for a permanent Head Coach to lead the club into the future.
