Louisville City FC star Joshua Wynder has been named in the United States’ preliminary roster for the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup, released by Concacaf on Thursday afternoon.

The 18-year-old is part of a 60-player group that will form the squad for the continental tournament, with the United States set to begin its group stage on June 24 against Jamaica.

A finalist for both U.S. Soccer’s Young Male Player of the Year and the USL Championship’s Young Player of the Year award in 2022, Wynder received his first call-up to the senior United States Men’s National Team in April when he was named in the squad for the Allstate Continental Clasico against Mexico in Phoenix.

The 18-year-old is currently part of the United States U-20 Men’s National Team squad competing at the FIFA Men’s U-20 World Cup in Argentina. Wynder has started in three of the side’s four games, helping Head Coach Mikey Varas’ side reach the Quarterfinals on Sunday without conceding a goal.

A Louisville native, Wynder has made 41 appearances for Louisville City FC in the USL Championship regular season and playoffs since making his debut as a 16-year-old in the 2021 season. He had previously competed for LouCity’s burgeoning academy program at the 2020 USL Academy Eastern Conference Showcase, a precursor to the current USL Academy Cup, and is one of five current LouCity Academy graduates that have signed professionally with the USL Championship club.

“I’m from Louisville,” Wynder told ESPN’s Herculez Gomez and Sebastian Salazar on Futbol Americas this week, “so having my family and friends every game definitely helped me a lot and it’s just a perfect pathway for a player like me who’s young. They’ve given me a lot of minutes, they’ve given me attention, which is going to help me move on to the next step, whatever that is.

“My goal has been Europe ever since I was young, so just to go into Louisville playing, getting me minutes, getting me experience, that will help me move on.”
