In a week where the schedule delivered some major surprise results, the goalkeepers were once again front and center with key stops that not only hit the highlight reel but also helped their clubs to success after 90 minutes. Here are the denials we’ve selected as nominees for the USL Championship Fans’ Choice Save of the Week, and it’s up to you to vote for the winner here on the web, on the league social media feeds, and in the USL App.
Voting runs through Friday, June 2 at 12 p.m. ET.
Michael Nelson (TUL) - #LOUvTUL, 5/24/23: Nelson produced a diving stop to keep out a low shot by Louisville City FC’s Rasmus Thellufsen at Lynn Family Stadium as part of a six-save performance to help the visitors claim a late win.
Leo Diaz (LV) - #PHXvLV, 5/26/23: The Argentine notched a pair of saves to help Lights FC claim its first win of the regular season against Phoenix, including a brilliant stop to deny Rising FC’s Eddie Munjoma after a weaving run put him through one-on-one with Diaz in the penalty area.
Paul Blanchette (OAK) - #OAKvSD, 5/27/23: Blanchette continued his stellar season with a superb point-blank denial on San Diego Loyal SC’s Evan Conway heel-flick finish before smothering the rebound, part of a five-save shutout at Pioneer Stadium.
Duran Ferree (SD) - #OAKvSD, 5/27/23: The United States U-17 international narrowed the angle quickly and made a tremendous save to keep his side in the game late as San Diego Loyal SC’s Lindo Mfeka broke in on goal at Pioneer Stadium.
