Charleston Battery’s Trey Muse earns Player of the Week after 10-save shutout at Rio Grande Valley FC

TAMPA, Fla. – The USL Championship announced the Team of the Week for Week 12 of the 2023 regular season on Tuesday, with the Charleston Battery’s Trey Muse voted the Championship Player of the Week presented by Konami eFootball after recording a 10-save shutout in the Battery’s 2-0 victory against Rio Grande Valley FC on Saturday night at H-E-B Park.

Muse helped keep the Battery in the game early against the Toros, recording four saves as the hosts took the first seven shots of the game before a lightning delay offered a respite for Charleston. The 23-year-old former United States youth international continued to shine after the resumption, with his 10 saves the most in a single game by a goalkeeper in the Championship so far this season. The shutout was also the first since the 2019 Championship regular season to feature double-digit saves, and tied for the most by a Battery goalkeeper in the Championship era alongside Hugo Fauroux’s 10-save display against the LA Galaxy II a season ago.

Muse earned 53 percent of the ballot to claim the award. Detroit City FC’s Maxi Rodriguez finished second on 27 percent after scoring the decisive goal as part of a strong all-around display to lead Le Rouge to a 1-0 victory against Birmingham Legion FC at Keyworth Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
