TULSA, Okla. – FC Tulsa announced on Tuesday the club had acquired forward Patrick Weah on loan from Major League Soccer’s Minnesota United FC for the remainder of the 2023 USL Championship season. Weah will be available for selection in Tulsa’s contest against Monterey Bay F.C. on Wednesday night.

Weah joins Tulsa having recorded two goals and one assist in 315 minutes this season for Minnesota United FC 2. The 19-year-old has previously competed in the USL Championship for Sacramento Republic FC, which he joined on loan in 2021 after signing as a Homegrown Player with the Loons. Weah made seven appearances and logged 200 minutes for Republic FC.

“Patrick is a very gifted player who will add a spark to our attack,” said Tulsa Head Coach Blair Gavin. “His pace and power will give us a different element on the front line. We look forward to bringing him into the group and building chemistry right away.”

Weah, a cousin of United States Men’s National Team winger Tim Weah, inked a homegrown deal with Minnesota on March 4, 2021 and has previously made two MLS appearances. Due to an ACL injury that required surgery a year ago, Weah missed the entirety of the 2022 season before working his way back into the MNUFC2 squad earlier this year.

“I'm excited to join a new group and start working together with a fantastic coach,” said Weah. “I’ve been here for a few days and the team culture has been great. The guys are great and I do believe we have the talent and the team spirit to achieve great things this year. I'm looking forward to working with the players and coaching staff to improve each and every day and to win a championship.”

Upon moving to Minnesota from Liberia where he was born, Weah played at Wayzata High School where he won the state championship his sophomore year and was subsequently named the Minnesota State Player of the Year. He went on to play three NCAA matches at Saint Louis University for the Billikens, scoring once, before signing with Minnesota United FC’s youth academy.
