LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Louisville City FC announced on Thursday the club had signed Alex Kron to a USL Academy contract for the 2023 USL Championship season. The 18-year-old will be eligible for selection in LouCity’s next contest this Saturday against rival Indy Eleve.

As a USL Academy signing, Kron will be able to train with and play for LouCity’s professional squad while maintaining amateur status. The current St. Xavier High School senior is committed to play collegiately starting this fall at the University of Kentucky.

This marks Kron’s second stint with LouCity’s First Team after having been as USL Academy signing in the 2021 campaign. Since then, Kron has solidified his status as the No. 1 goalkeeper among the academy’s current U-19 age group.

In December, Kron was one of four goalkeepers nationally — and the only boys player from Kentucky — selected to the United Soccer Coaches High School All-America Team. Last month, he started for the LouCity Academy squad that won its division at the prestigious Dallas Cup.

Kron is the fourth LouCity Academy player registered on a USL Academy contract so far this season joining forwards Issac Cano and Colin Elder along with defender Travis Smith.
