Locomotive FC’s Marton Demko selected for Hungary’s UEFA U-17 Championship squad

Defender was called up for pre-tournament training camp, earned place in final 21-man roster as event kicks off Wednesday

EL PASO, Texas – El Paso Locomotive FC defender Marton Demko has been named to the Hungary U-17 Men’s National Team for the 2023 UEFA European U-17 Championship, kicking off May 17 in Hungary.

Demko was initially called into Hungary’s pre-tournament training camp last week and was among the 21 players to earn selection for the tournament which serves as European qualifying for the FIFA U-17 World Cup this November.

The 17-year-old dual-national moved to El Paso from Florida last November and signed as with Locomotive FC’s First Team as a USL Academy player in March. Since then, he has been able to train with the El Paso first team and gain valuable experience early in his playing career.

As hosts, Hungary was automatically placed into Group A. The side will open the tournament on Wednesday night against Wales (2 p.m. ET) before facing Poland on Saturday (2 p.m. ET) and rounding out the group stage against the Republic of Ireland next Tuesday (2 p.m. ET.

The top five teams at the end of the U-17 Euros will qualify for the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup in November.
