The busiest night of the season so far in the USL Championship this past Saturday saw a tremendous collection of saves, including some full-stretch denials and stellar shot-stopping from the league’s goalkeepers. Here are the stops we’ve selected as nominees for the USL Championship Fans’ Choice Save of the Week, and it’s up to you to vote for the winner here on the web, on the league social media feeds, and in the USL App.
Voting runs through Friday, May 19 at 12 p.m. ET.
Christian Herrera (COS) - #MEMvCOS, 5/13/23: Herrera made an excellent double-save in Memphis, first making a diving stop to deny 901 FC’s Phillip Goodrum before recovering to stop Laurent Kissiedou on the rebound.
Yannik Oettl (IND) - #SACvIND, 5/13/23: Oettl reacted quickly to a clever piece of skill by Sacramento Republic FC’s Jack Gurr, tipping his looping first-time shot from 25 yards over the crossbar at Heart Health Park.
Richard Sanchez (HFD) - #PHXvHFD, 5/13/23: Sanchez kept his focus and produced a strong low save on a free kick by Phoenix’s Daniel Krutzen that came through a crowd around the defensive wall toward the left corner of the net.
Michael Nelson (TUL) - #LVvTUL, 5/13/23: Nelson produced a tremendous save to help Tulsa earn a point on the road in Las Vegas, tipping a curling chip by Lights FC’s Emmanuel Ledesma over the crossbar at Cashman Field.
