INDIANAPOLIS – Indy Eleven announced on Friday the club had acquired defender Macauley King via transfer from fellow USL Championship club Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. In a corresponding move, the Boys in Blue transferred forward Jonas Fjeldberg to the Switchbacks. Per club policy, terms of the deal will not be disclosed.

King returns for his second stint in the Circle City, having begun his USL Championship career with Indy in 2019. He appeared in 22 matches in the campaign, making 17 starts and logging 1,488 minutes, helping the club to an appearance in the Eastern Conference Final of the 2019 USL Championship Playoffs and a 19-9-6 overall record, which included an undefeated campaign at home. That season, King had one goal and three assists for the Boys in Blue, while adding 25 clearances, four blocks, 14 interceptions and 17 tackles and 86 duels won. In all, the Leicester, England, native has previously made 25 appearances for the club.

The move also reunites King with current Indy Head Coach Mark Lowry, who led El Paso Locomotive FC when he was acquired by the club on Aug. 11, 2020. He spent two seasons with Locomotive FC, where he appeared in 37 matches and logged 2,881 minutes. King scored seven goals and notched five assists and collected five USL Championship Team of the Week honors while in El Paso.

In January 2022, King was transferred to Colorado Springs and appeared in 12 matches for the Switchbacks, logging 579 minutes during his initial season. Seeing limited time due to injury, King recorded six clearances and six interceptions, while registering a passing accuracy rate of just over 74 percent. To open the 2023 season, King had started all five appearances he made for Colorado Springs, registered eight clearances, three blocks, three interceptions and a pair of shots.

King will be available for Indy’s contest on Saturday at Sacramento Republic FC.
