Week 9 of the 2023 USL Championship regular season wraps up on Sunday afternoon as Las Vegas Lights FC faces a quick turnaround, and an early-season rematch, playing host to defending title holder San Antonio FC at Cashman Field.

Here’s a look ahead at the action.

Las Vegas Lights FC vs. San Antonio FC

Venue: Cashman Field
Kickoff: 6 p.m. ET
Broadcast: ESPN+

The Lowdown: Las Vegas Lights FC will play host to San Antonio FC looking to rebound from a setback in its home opener, with the sides set to square off for the second time this season after finishing all square in their meeting at Toyota Field. Lights FC (0-2-5, 5pts) fell 1-0 to the Charleston Battery on Friday night despite putting up a valiant effort in its first home league game of the season but missed out on the chance of another point as Erick “Cubo” Torres had a second-half penalty kick saved to leave Augustine Williams’ spot kick for the Battery as the lone goal of the game. Las Vegas could be encouraged by its overall display, however, which saw it record its most shots on target in a game this season (6) among 15 shots overall. San Antonio (3-1-4, 13pts) arrives after a 1-1 draw with Las Vegas in its last outing on April 29 as Cristian Parano found the net to level late in the first half after Justin Ingram had put Lights FC ahead early in the contest. SAFC is winless in its last four league games, and will be eager to emulate its victory at Cashman Field a season ago as it looks to close the gap to Sacramento Republic FC at the top of the Western Conference standings.

Spotlight Players
Las Vegas Lights FC – Pato Botello Faz:
The forward who previously starred in San Antonio as a youth and college player came on as a second-half substitute against Charleston on Friday night and could rotate into the starting lineup here for the hosts.

San Antonio FC – Samuel Adeniran: The powerful forward scored when the teams last met at Cashman Field a season ago and will be looking for his first goal of the campaign after arriving on loan from St. Louis CITY SC last month.
