Capital FC Atletico kickoff their 2023 USL 2 season with their 5th annual Teddy Bear Toss.

SALEM, Ore. -- The Teddy Bear Toss is a staple event with Capital FC's #Path2Pro teams.

Becoming a beloved tradition in the world of soccer, this years event will take place May 21st at CFC Atletico's home-opener. Fans are invited to bring teddy bears to the stadium and toss them onto the field after the first goal is scored.

The Teddy Bear Toss was first introduced by the Western Hockey League’s Kamloops Blazers in 1993. Since then, it has spread to other sports, including soccer, and has become a popular way for teams to give back to their communities. The Capital FC Teddy Bear Toss was started in 2017 and has since become a highlight of the team’s season.

The event begins with fans bringing in new, unwrapped teddy bears to the stadium. As the game progresses, the anticipation builds, with fans eagerly waiting for the first goal to be scored. When that moment arrives, the crowd erupts with excitement as teddy bears of all shapes and sizes are thrown onto the field.

The teddy bears are then collected by volunteers and taken to the Liberty House Child Abuse Assessment Center. These donations have a significant impact on the children who receive them, bringing a bit of comfort and joy during difficult times.

The Teddy Bear Toss is more than just a fun event. It is a reminder of the importance of giving back to the community and the positive impact that small acts of kindness can have. This event has become a powerful symbol of the generosity and compassion that can be found in the world of sports.
