Championship Player of the Month Nominees – April

A busy month of action saw five players impress in the attacking and defensive thirds, which gets your vote?

TAMPA, Fla. – The USL Championship announced on Thursday the five nominees for the USL Championship Player of the Month award Presented by Konami eFootball for April, honoring five of the top performers throughout the second month of the 2023 season as they take their place on the ballot.

Voting in the Championship Player of the Month Award will be conducted by the following three voting bodies:

  • A fan vote on USLChampionship.com will comprise 51 percent of the poll. The fan vote will run through Monday, May 8 at 12 p.m. ET.
  • The USL Technical Committee’s ballots comprise 25 percent of the poll.
  • The USL National Media Panel’s ballots comprise 24 percent of the poll.

The award winner and complete voting results will be announced on Thursday, May 11.

Please note: The USL Championship Player of the Month selection process in no way is tied directly to the voting and selection process of End of the Year awards such as USL Championship Most Valuable Player or position players of the year.

USL Championship Player of the Month – April 2023

Russell Cicerone, Sacramento Republic FC – Cicerone continued to make his presence felt with three goals and two assists on the month, averaging a goal every 123.3 minutes, while his all-around play saw him post a +2.38 Goals Added mark, the highest among outfield players in the month.

Paul Blanchette, Oakland Roots SC – Blanchette led the Championship with 22 saves across five appearances for an 84.6 save percentage and posted three shutouts and a 0.80 goals-against average, while logging a +3.93 Goals Added mark.

Enzo Martinez, Birmingham Legion FC – The veteran playmaker recorded three goals and two assists in five appearances, averaging a goal every 135 minutes as he reached 60 regular season goals and 40 regular season assists for his career, earning a +1.69 Goals Added mark.

Christian Volesky, Monterey Bay F.C. – Volesky recorded three goals and two assists for MBFC as it reeled off a six-game undefeated streak in all competitions to end the month, twice earned the Championship’s Player of the Week award, and averaged a goal every 134.7 minutes.

Manuel Arteaga, Phoenix Rising FC – The Venezuelan forward notched three goals and two assists for Rising FC while averaging a goal every 139.7 minutes across five appearances and posted a Goals Added mark of +1.36, highest on the club.
