SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio FC announced on Thursday the club had acquired forward Tani Oluwaseyi on loan from Minnesota United FC of Major League Soccer for the remainder of the 2023 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval, and MNUFC has the right to recall Oluwaseyi at any time throughout the duration of the loan.

“We are delighted to welcome Tani to the team and appreciate Minnesota for supplying the loan,” said SAFC head coach Alen Marcina. “Tani is a top athlete, who is a vertical runner with game-changing speed. On the ball he thrives in 1v1 attacking duels with the ability to create for himself and his teammates and has shown the ability to score goals. We are excited to integrate him as quickly as possible to our team identity.”

Oluwaseyi joins SAFC after appearing in two of Minnesota’s eight matches to start the 2023 season. The St. John’s product was selected 17th overall in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft after recording 20 goals and 10 assists in 49 collegiate matches.

“When I look at the last two years with Tani, he’s had his last year in college – he had a serious knee injury – and last year he was in and out and never got in a groove, and now he’s fit and healthy. We want to try and put him in the best competition that he can be in, to play regularly, and that is the USL [Championship],” said MNUFC Head Coach Adrian Heath. “San Antonio are last year’s champions, great environment, a good crowd and a proper stadium.

“We feel we’ll get a better idea and a better picture of what we’ve got with Tani when he’s playing consistently, and this is the best route for him at this moment in time. We still have high hopes of him and think there’s something there, and this will us a clearer picture of where we think he is.”
