SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio FC announced on Tuesday it had acquired forward Samuel Adeniran on loan from St. Louis CITY SC of Major League Soccer, bringing the center forward back to the club with which he claimed the USL Championship title a season ago.
Adeniran appeared in 23 matches with SAFC last season and recorded 12 goals in 23 appearances to lead the team across the regular season and playoffs. The 24-year-old was acquired by St. Louis CITY SC this offseason from Seattle Sounders FC in the MLS Expansion Draft.
“We are thrilled to welcome back Sam to the team and appreciate St. Louis for accommodating the loan,” said SAFC Head Coach Alen Marcina. “As we know, Sam is a powerful game-changing striker, a proven goal scorer, and is committed to pressing actions. With Sam's addition we immediately raise the level of team.”
Adeniran’s 2022 campaign marked the second-most goals scored in a single season by a San Antonio FC player. It included a pair of goals in the 2022 USL Championship Playoffs, including what proved the game-winning goal in the Championship Final against Louisville City FC as San Antonio won its first league title.
This season, Adeniran has played 87 minutes for St. Louis in four MLS appearances off the bench. He has scored 25 goals in the USL Championship across the regular season and playoffs in his career overall, having notched 13 goals in 30 appearances for the Tacoma Defiance previously.
