Honor marks third monthly award since arrival in San Antonio for reigning Championship Goalkeeper of the Year

TAMPA, Fla. – San Antonio FC’s Jordan Farr was announced as the USL Championship’s Player of the Month for March on Thursday, honoring the reigning Championship Goalkeeper of the Year as he maintained his high standard between the sticks as SAFC made an undefeated start to the defense of its USL Championship title this season.

The 28-year-old proved essential to his side’s success as he posted 12 saves and a save percentage of 85.7 percent as San Antonio claimed two wins and a draw to start the campaign. Farr’s Player of the Month award is his third since joining SAFC prior to the 2022 season, having claimed the award in both April and September last season.

Farr joins current Miami FC forward Kyle Murphy and current Louisville City FC forward Cameron Lancaster as three-time winners of the Championship’s Player of the Month honor in the award’s history.

“This one’s special because it’s so important to start the year off strong individually and then as a team,” said Farr. “The results have been really positive, even though we’ve been dealing with a ton of injuries. I’m happy to play my part, my role. I know that some months I’m going to be called upon quite a lot, some months we’re not going to allow any shots on goal. So, credit to the team for giving me the opportunities to succeed and putting me into really good positions to make saves. And ultimately, for finding the resilience to win and get points out of matches.”

A native of Salem, Ore., Far has quickly become a fan favorite since arriving in San Antonio. He initially joined the club on loan from Indy Eleven as an emergency loan during the 2021 USL Championship Playoffs, where he helped the side reach the Western Conference Final. His popularity has been reflected in the Championship’s Fans’ Choice Save of the Week contest this year, in which Farr claimed the fan-voted honor in each of the first three weeks of the season.

The most important stop among those three came in SAFC’s clash on March 25 against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC, a rematch of last year’s Western Conference Final in the postseason. Farr made a stoppage time penalty kick denial of the Switchbacks’ Zach Zandi to preserve a 1-0 victory for the hosts, who currently sit tied for first place in the Western Conference standings.

“It’s a part of my game that I’m really excited to accentuate,” said Farr. “It’s something that I’ve worked on a ton – just making big saves and being ready for big moments.”

Farr received 42 percent of a weighted poll that included the USL Championship Technical Committee, a national panel of independent media representing every USL market and an online fan vote held at USLChampionship.com. Monterey Bay F.C.’s Alex Dixon finished second on 23 percent after recording a league-high four goals in the opening month of the season, while the Charleston Battery’s Fidel Barajas took third after recording one goal and two assists to help his side to an undefeated start to the campaign.
