SEASIDE, Calif. – Monterey Bay F.C. announced on Friday the club had signed midfielder Nevello Yoseke to a one-year contract. The move adds important depth in the midfield for MBFC ahead of its third match this week, a meeting with New Mexico United at Cardinale Stadium on Saturday night.

“Nevello came in on trial during the preseason,” said Monterey Bay Sporting Director and Head Coach Frank Yallop. “We got in touch with one another at the beginning of February, he was here in the area, so I invited him to come in for an assessment. From day one he has fit in nicely. All of the guys have appreciated him and his hard work. He is a lovely kid. He still has a ways to go to get right up to this level, but he’s shown great progress and plays the six position very well. He is only going to get better.”

Born in Khartoum, Sudan, Yoseke is no stranger to adversity. Raised in a war-torn country, after losing his dad, the family consisting of himself, his mother, and his four siblings fled to Egypt. Though living in a refugee camp, they were constantly in danger – especially when another African soccer team beat the Egyptian national team. That was when insults, beatings, and worse would heighten for those in the refugee camps.

After seven years of waiting, Yoseke and his family were finally moved to Canada, and it was there Yoseke would then begin his professional soccer career. He signed his first contract in 2015-2016 with FC Montréal, which competed in the USL Championship. Yoseke recorded 1,114 minutes across 25 appearances for the Canadian club and scored one goal. At the youth international level, Yoseke played for the Canadian national team in the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup and made his international debut against Austria on October 19.

Following stops in Sweden, France, and Québec, Yoseke spent the 2021 campaign with New Amsterdam FC in New York as part of the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA). Now, the 27-year-old joins Yallop’s squad ahead of the club’s fifth match of the campaign.

“I am very happy, I love the fans here and I love the area,” said Yoseke. “I am grateful for the opportunity that Frank has given me and now I am just looking to give it back on the field. I am going to play hard for the team and especially for the fans.”
