HARTFORD, Conn. – Elvis Amoh scored the second hat trick in Hartford Athletic’s history to send the USL Championship side to its first win of the season in a 3-0 victory against Lansdowne Yonkers FC on Tuesday night at Trinity Health Stadium in the Second Round of the 2023 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

Hartford generated numerous chances in the opening half before striking first in the 27th minute. A cross from the left by Antoine Hoppenot found Kyle Edwards at the back post, and the St. Vincent and Grenadines international headed back across goal where Amoh was waiting on the doorstep to head home.

The Athletic had to settle for that lone goal in the first half, as Amoh hit the post twice, but the hosts added to their lead in the 72nd minute, when Amoh drew a penalty kick when his shot deflected off a defender’s hand in the penalty area. The Ghanaian stepped to the spot and shot low to the right corner to double his side’s lead.

Lansdowne almost responded immediately when Shamir Mullings hit the post with a header, but Hartford sealed the game with a fine team goal with eight minutes remaining. Jeciel Cedeño made a sliding deflection near midfield, hustled to claim possession and after his pass into the center of the field was met by a clever dummy from Jonathan Filipe, the ball came to Amoh at the top of the penalty area for a first-time shot that completed his hat trick.
