The Islamic holy month of Ramadan began on Wednesday evening, opening a month of prayer and fasting around the Muslim world that commemorates Muhammad's first revelation.
The annual observance is regarded as one of the Five Pillars of Islam, with the aim of being a time of self-reflection, community and moving closer to God spiritually. For numerous players across the USL Championship, it also means a diligent daily routine with all observants committed to fasting from sunrise to sunset.
One of those players is San Antonio FC’s Mohammed Abu. A native of Ghana, the 31-year-old played a key role in the club’s successful 2022 season with six assists in 30 appearances for the side. He walked the field with SAFC host Bryan Colbert Jr. to provide insight into what Ramadan means to him personally, and what it means for him as a player.
