Louisville City FC standout Joshua Wynder has been selected in the United States U-20 Men’s National Team squad that will head to Spain next week for three games as it prepares for the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup in May, continuing the progression of one of the league’s top young talents at the national team level.

Wynder is joined in the squad by former teammate at Louisville City FC Jonathan Gomez, the 2021 Championship Young Player of the Year now at Spain’s Real Sociedad, and 2021 Championship All-League selection Diego Luna, currently of Real Salt Lake.

The 17-year-old Wynder returns to the U.S. U-20s squad after earning his first call-up to the group in January. In the past year, the LouCity Academy product was a finalist for both U.S. Soccer’s Young Male Player of the Year award and the USL Championship’s Young Player of the Year award after making 22 appearances in the Championship’s regular season and playoffs and helping lead the United States U-19s to an undefeated year.

Wynder is one of five LouCity Academy graduates currently signed to professional contracts with the club, with elder brother Elijah and midfielder Carlos Moguel Jr. having made their 2023 debuts last weekend in Louisville’s 3-1 win against Orange County SC.

The United States will play games against England, France and Serbia during its camp in Marbella, Spain, kicking off next Wednesday with a meeting against fellow U-20 World Cup qualifiers France. The side will then face an England U-20s side that won the 2022 UEFA U-19 Championship last year to qualify for the World Cup next Friday before rounding out its trip with a game against Serbia on Tuesday, March 28.
