INDIANAPOLIS – Indy Eleven announced on Friday the club had acquired forward Douglas Martinez Jr. via transfer from fellow USL Championship club Sacramento Republic FC. Terms of the transaction that brings the Honduran striker to the Circle City will not be released, and the agreement is pending per league and federation approval.

Martinez joins Indy having previously made 90 appearances across the USL Championship’s regular season and playoffs, recording 27 goals and 12 assists in that span. In 2019 he was a key piece of the Real Monarchs SLC squad that claimed the USL Championship title, recording 17 goals and seven assists that season.

“Douglas is a multifaceted finisher with great experience who can bring another dimension to our attack,” said Indy Eleven Head Coach Mark Lowry, who coached against Martinez’s Real Monarchs teams in the Western Conference while with El Paso Locomotive FC. “He’s proven he can produce at this level and we believe he’ll fit our approach on both sides of the ball incredibly well. We look forward to incorporating him into the squad quickly and to the contributions he’ll bring to the group this season.”

Martinez’s professional career began as a 16-year-old in his native Honduras with C.D.S. Vida in 2013. He first saw action in the USL Championship in 2017 while on loan with the New York Red Bulls II before joining the Monarchs for the 2019 season. He joined Real Salt Lake in Major League Soccer the following season and recorded two goals in 25 top-flight appearances while also spending time on loan with San Diego Loyal SC in the USL Championship in 2021.

The 25-year-old last year recorded five goals and three assists for Republic FC in 31 appearances in the Championship while also notching a goal and assist in Sacramento’s run to the Final of the 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

Martinez has also made four appearances and scored once for Honduras at the senior international level, making his debut in 2019 during Concacaf Nations League play. In 2021, he was named to the roster for the Tokyo Olympics Men’s Soccer tournament, where he started all three matches in group play for Honduras’ U-23 side.
