San Antonio FC has signed 22-year-old defender Zico Bailey to a 25-day contract, with the right back having previously competed for FC Cincinnati in Major League Soccer.

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio FC announced on Thursday the club had signed defender Zico Bailey to a 25-day contract. The transaction is pending league and federation approval, and per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Bailey comes to San Antonio after spending the last three seasons with Major League Soccer’s FC Cincinnati, where he competed in both the top flight and on loan with the club’s reserve team FC Cincinnati 2 in MLS NEXT Pro.

Bailey has made 19 appearances for FCCincy in the top flight, racking up more than 1,000 minutes of action and recording a goal and two assists. The 22-year-old right back last season made 17 appearances in MLS NEXT Pro and recorded two assists while completing 84.5 percent of his passes.

“We are pleased to welcome Zico to the team,” said SAFC Head Coach Alen Marcina. “He possesses a versatile skillset that allows him to perform and excel in several different positions. Zico demonstrates a growth mindset, which will be essential to learning and adapting to our team identity in a very short period. This signing serves as another great example of the importance of short-term contracts.”

Bailey brings prior experience in the USL Championship, having played as a USL Academy signing for the LA Galaxy II during the 2017 season when he made five appearances and logged 319 minutes in the league. Prior to joining Cincinnati, which acquired his Homegrown Player rights from the Galaxy, Bailey spent time with Swedish top-tier side Kalmar FF as well as Danish second-division club HC Helsingør.
