TULSA, Okla. – FC Tulsa announced on Thursday the club had signed defender Rashid Tetteh ahead of the 2023 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

“Rashid brings lots of experience and versatility to our team,” said FC Tulsa head coach Blair Gavin. “He has shown very well in the USL for several years and we look to use his ability on the ball and aggression in duels to help progress our style of play.”

Tetteh joins FC Tulsa on the heels of four seasons spent with USL Championship Western Conference club New Mexico United. The Ghanaian center back joined New Mexico in its inaugural 2019 season and quickly solidified himself as a defensive mainstay, finishing third on the squad with 2,570 minutes played and finishing as the club’s Rookie of the Year.

Tetteh has made 84 appearances for New Mexico across the regular season and playoffs in the Championship, logging 6,516 minutes of action and recording 214 clearances, 106 interceptions and 394 recoveries. Defensively he has boasted a cumulative tackle success rate of 71.1 percent, and a duel success rate of 60.9 percent in his career.

“I’m so excited to start this 2023 season in this beautiful state,” said Tetteh. “Leaving my family and former team was not a decision I took lightly, but I felt like Tulsa was where I needed to be. The goal for this season is to help take us to the league championship and be part of a brick-wall defense. When I was approached with the opportunity to play for Tulsa it was a no brainer to make the move because of their commitment to the fans and community. I look forward to the coming season and can’t wait to get on the field.”

Prior to kicking off his professional career in New Mexico, Tetteh attended High Point University where he competed for the Panthers from 2015-2018. He accumulated Big South First Team All-Conference honors in 2018, Big South co-Defensive Player of the Year and All-Big South First Team awards in 2017, and an All-Big South Second Team selection in 2016.

While at High Point, Tetteh also appeared for the Carolina Dynamo in USL League Two for two brief stints in 2016 and 2017, then with the Des Moines Menace in 2018.
