DETROIT – Detroit City FC announced on Wednesday the club had signed midfielder Tommy McCabe to a one-year contract with a club option for the 2024 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

McCabe joins Le Rouge having spent the past two seasons with fellow USL Championship club Orange County SC. The 24-year-old made 55 appearances for OCSC over that span, and helped the club claim the 2021 USL Championship title, starting in Orange County’s 3-1 victory against the Tampa Bay Rowdies.

Prior to joining Orange County, McCabe had been selected with the 29th pick of the 2019 Major League Soccer SuperDraft by FC Cincinnati and turned pro with the side as it entered MLS that season. McCabe made a pair of appearances for FCC in the regular season while also spending time on loan in the USL Championship with North Carolina FC, where he made nine appearances and recorded his first two goals in the professional ranks.

The following year McCabe returned on loan in the Championship, this time at Memphis 901 FC where he made seven appearances and logged a pair of assists. In his career, McCabe has made 75 appearances in the Championship across the regular season and playoffs and has posted a passing accuracy rate of 84.6 percent and tackle success rate of 74.1 percent while recording 62 interceptions and 263 recoveries in central midfield.
