LAS VEGAS – Las Vegas Lights FC announced on Tuesday the club had signed forward Erick “Cubo” Torres ahead of the 2023 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Torres joins Las Vegas having spent the past campaign with fellow USL Championship club Orange County SC. During the 2022 campaign, he recorded nine goals and two assists in 33 appearances for the side, recording 23 shots on target and 20 chances creating while posting a shot conversion rate of 22 percent. Torres also scored once in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in OCSC’s Third Round contest with Los Angeles FC.

The 30-year-old native of Guadalajara had previously competed in the top flight in both his native Mexico and the United States. In Major League Soccer he recorded 37 goals and eight assists across 137 regular season appearances, while also recording 19 goals and 13 assists in 94 regular season appearances in LigaMX.

Torres has played for both Chivas de Guadalajara and Chivas USA, while also competing for Houston Dynamo FC and Atlanta United FC in MLS and Club Tijuana, Cruz Azul and Pumas UNAM in Liga MX.

In addition to his club career, Torres has made seven appearances for Mexico, making his debut for the side on Sept. 10, 2014 against Bolovia. Torres’ lone senior international goal came later that year as he found the net in an international exhibition against Panama that October.

Torres and Las Vegas Lights FC will kick off the club’s sixth season on Sunday night as it visits Rio Grande Valley FC at H-E-B Park, with kickoff scheduled for 8 p.m. ET.
