DETROIT – Detroit City FC announced on Monday the club had re-signed goalkeeper Ryan Shellow to a one-year contract that will see him back with Le Rouge for the 2023 season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Shellow joined Le Rouge ahead of its inaugural season in the USL Championship a season ago and served as the primary backup to starter Nathan Steinwascher throughout the season. The 25-year-old made his Championship debut against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on September 10 and recorded three saves in a 2-1 victory at Weidner Field that earned him Player of the Match honors and proved a key result in DCFC’s road to a playoff berth.

A native of Miami, Fla., Shellow had spent his first season in the professional ranks with USL League One club FC Tucson in 2021 after a stellar college career at Cornell University. Shellow recorded nine shutouts in 47 appearances for the Big Red in his career, posting 181 saves and a save percentage of 70.4 percent over his career.

Detroit City kicks off its 2023 campaign on Saturday night as it visits San Diego Loyal SC at Torero Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET.
