SAN DIEGO – San Diego Loyal SC took to the streets across their community on Friday night, unveiling their new 2023 kits through a celebratory collaboration with local street artists Paul Jimenez and Signe Ditona of Ground Floor Murals.
Street murals featuring midfielders Collin Martin and Alejandro Guido and goalkeeper Duran Ferree were unveiled in three San Diego County neighborhoods, paying homage to the city as the club revealed its new looks for the upcoming USL Championship season.
“The representation of our club through inspiring artwork around San Diego is an incredible tribute to our players, fans and the soccer community,” said SD Loyal Club President Ricardo Campos. “Our collaboration with CHARLY Fútbol amplifies our roots and deep connection with our community. We thank CHARLY Fútbol for continuing to provide world-class customization, creating true works of art for our club and all of San Diego to be proud of.”
Proudly displaying first-time front-of-kit sponsor BluPeak Credit Union, the 2023 SD Loyal kits also introduces Tequila Corralejo as the 2023 back-of-kit sponsor. Rady Children’s Hospital returns on the right sleeve with twenty-five dollars from each goalkeeper kit sale directly benefiting Rady Children’s Hospital.
“Collaborating with SD Loyal for the second year is a privilege for the CHARLY Brand,” said CHARLY Fútbol Managing Director Jason Wells. “Their vision for the club and commitment to their fans is inspiring and expands far beyond the city of San Diego. We’re grateful for the partnership and thrilled with the results of our collective efforts. 2023 will be another terrific season together, and we can’t wait to compete for a championship run alongside Loyal.”
In Hillcrest, the 2023 SD Loyal Home Kit was unveiled by Martin, who became one of the first openly gay male professional athletes five years ago. Martin, Hillcrest, and San Diego Pride remain at the forefront of fighting for LGBTQ+ rights and equality locally and nationally.
Bringing back the prominent Torrey Green color to Torero Stadium, the 2023 SD Loyal Home Kit takes on a classic look. Crossing diagonally through the club crest, a sunset stripe represents the sun rays that shine throughout the days in America’s Finest City. The vertical contrasting stripe draws attention to the Loyal crest positioned near the heart, representing the love shared from North County all the way to the border.
In his hometown of Chula Vista, Guido let fans bear first witness to the 2023 SD Loyal Away Kit. A self-proclaimed border kid who signed his first professional contract with nearby Club Tijuana, Guido played for Tijuana, Dorados de Sinaloa, and Los Angeles FC before returning home to SD Loyal.
The final kit reveal was saved for 16-year-old SD Loyal goalkeeper Duran Ferree, who unveiled the 2023 SD Loyal Goalkeeper Kit from SD Loyal HQ in Mission Valley. For Ferree, bringing home the final mural represented the full circle of SD Loyal’s mission of growing the game in San Diego.
Ferree last year made history as the first Loyal Select player to sign a professional contract with the First Team and most recently earned a call-up to the United States Under-17 Men’s National Team for the 2023 Concacaf Under-17 Championship. Inspired by the celebratory smoke that bellows from section 109 at Torero Stadium, the 2023 SD Loyal Goalkeeper Kit pays homage to SD Loyal’s passionate supporter groups, The Locals and Chavos de Loyal.
All three kits are available today at theshop.sdloyal.com and charly.com. The first in-person opportunity to purchase the 2023 CHARLY Fútbol Home, Away and Goalkeeper kits will be on Saturday, March 4, at the SD Loyal x CHARLY Fútbol Kit Release Party at the Adams Avenue Theater.
