MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis 901 FC announced on Friday the club had signed midfielder Sebastian Velasquez to a multi-year contract ahead of the 2023 USL Championship season. The signing is pending league and federation approval.

The veteran attacking midfielder brings MLS and USL Championship experience to the 901 FC attack. During Velasquez’s career he has recorded 101 appearances in the USL Championship’s regular season and playoffs, recording 27 goals and 18 assists. In 2017 he was voted to the Championship’s All-League First Team as he helped Real Monarchs SLC claim the best record in the regular season.

“We are proud to welcome Sebastián and his family to Memphis 901 FC,” Assistant Sporting Director Caleb Patterson-Sewell said. “In Sebastián, we are bringing a league veteran with game changing ability to Memphis. He adds another dimension to our roster, and we firmly believe he will help us get results on the field this season.”

Velasquez has also made 55 appearances in Major League Soccer across the regular season and playoffs, having began his professional career with Real Salt Lake after being selected in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft. He has also competed in the top-flight for New York City FC, while more recently spending time in the Championship with Miami FC and El Paso Locomotive FC.

“I chose Memphis because I wanted to be on a team that I believe can win a championship,” said Velásquez. “With the players we have, the coaching staff, the front office and most importantly the fans, I believe we can be a team that Memphis can be proud of.”
