Eighteen teams get home draws, in-state contests led by LouCity clash with Lexington SC highlight slate

The road to glory in the 2023 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup will begin at home for numerous USL Championship clubs, with Louisville City FC, Sacramento Republic FC, Phoenix Rising FC and the Tampa Bay Rowdies among those handed home draws to kick off the tournament in early April.

The Second Round draw was announced by U.S. Soccer on Thursday afternoon, detailing the contests for all 24 USL Championship clubs as they seek to emulate the historic run by Republic FC to last season’s Final.

LouCity will face a new in-state arrival as it plays host to expansion USL League One club Lexington Sporting Club at Lynn Family Stadium, while Phoenix Rising FC will welcome 2020 League One title winner Greenville Triumph SC to Arizona in two notable matchups.

Republic FC, meanwhile, will face either USL League Two club Project 51O – the pre-professional side operated by Oakland Roots SC – or Crossfire Premier at Heart Health Park, and the Rowdies will take on either USL League Two club Nona FC or Club de Lyon at Al Lang Stadium.

Overall, 18 Championship clubs will kick off the Open Cup on home turf. Among them is Loudoun United FC, which enters the tournament for the first time with a contest against League One club North Carolina FC.

Elsewhere, Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC will get a chance to turn the tables on League One club Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC at Weidner Field after the League One club’s upset in last year’s event, and Orange County SC could face a date with 2022 USL League Two title winner Ventura County Fusion at Championship Soccer Stadium.

2022 Championship title winner San Antonio FC will open on the road as it heads to face Club de Lyon FC in Kissimmee, Fla., while five clubs will travel to face USL League One opposition. Among those, Monterey Bay F.C. will face fellow NorCal club Central Valley Fuego FC, Rio Grande Valley FC will face 2022 League One title winner South Georgia Tormenta FC, and Memphis 901 FC will visit League One newcomer One Knoxville SC.

UPDATE: On Tuesday, March 7 it was announced that San Antonio FC would host Club de Lyon FC in a change from the previously announced draw, with kickoff at Toyota Field set for 8:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday, April 4.
