Taylor Davila joins Rio Grande Valley for new season

EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande Valley FC announced on Wednesday the club had signed midfielder Taylor Davila ahead of the 2023 USL Championship season. The signing is pending league and federation approval.

Davila joins the Toros from former USL Championship side the LA Galaxy II, having appeared in 61 matches overall between the 2021-22 campaigns for Los Dos. During the past season, the 6-foot-1 midfielder appeared in 32 matches and recorded three goals, two assists and 31 chances created. Defensively he notched 23 interceptions and posted a passing accuracy rate of 88.9 percent while averaging 66.1 passes per 90 minutes.

A native of Sherman Oaks, Calif., Davila stayed in his home state for his collegiate career. Competing at the University of California between 2018 and 2020 he logged 36 appearances and netted two goals. Prior to his arrival at Cal, Davila was part of the LA Galaxy U-18 and U-19 academy ranks in 2017-2018, and during that time also competed for the Galaxy II as a USL Academy signing.

Davila was a notable college standout, earning numerous accolades including selection to the 2019 United Soccer Coaches' All-Far West Region First Team. The 23-year-old was also voted to the 2019 All-Pac 12 First Team as he logged the fourth-most minutes for the Golden Bears in 18 appearances. In 2018, Davila started all 18 games as a freshman, tying for the team lead with three assists.
