TUCSON, Ariz. – New Mexico United got goals from Daniel Bruce and Santi Moar to take a 3-1 victory against Detroit City FC in a preseason contest at the Desert Showcase hosted by FC Tucson at the Kino Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon.

New Mexico opened the scoring after just 12 minutes when Bruce scored an audacious goal from close to the halfway line, catching DCFC’s goalkeeper off his line, to give United an early lead. Le Rouge came close to answering five minutes later when Yazeed Matthews shot just wide, while New Mexico goalkeeper Ford Parker made three saves to keep his side ahead going into halftime.

United doubled its lead a minute into the second half when current trialist Danny Robles retrieved a loose ball inside Detroit’s penalty area, turned and placed a shot in the goal. Matthews hit back for Le Rouge in the 56th minute, however, on a sharp finish.

New Mexico restored its two-goal lead midway through the second half as offseason arrivals Moar and Greg Hurst linked up. United midfielder Amando Moreno began then move as he drove the ball up through the middle of the field. He dished out a pass wide to Hurst, who picked out Moar inside the penalty area to finish.
