LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Louisville City FC announced on Tuesday a loan agreement with USL League One club Union Omaha that will send defender Sebastian Sanchez to Los Buhos for the 2023 season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

LouCity retains a right to recall Sanchez. Other terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“This represents a great opportunity for Sebastian to continue his development,” said LouCity  Head Coach Danny Cruz. “Omaha is a club well known for its quality. We know Sebastian’s in good hands there, and we look forward to seeing the player he becomes on the other side of the loan spell.”

Sanchez has reported to Nebraska-based Union Omaha for its preseason training. Launched in 2020, the club has excelled on the pitch, winning the League One title in 2021 before a 2022 U.S. Open Cup run that saw the club reach the Quarterfinals and was highlighted by upsets of Major League Soccer’s Chicago Fire FC and Minnesota United FC.

“Sebastian has been in a changing room that knows how to win," said Union Omaha Head Coach Dominic Casciato, "and he has a great mentality, so I'm looking forward to seeing him compete with our more experienced center backs over the course of the year. We're thankful to Danny Cruz at Louisville for sending Sebastian to us as he enters an important phase of his career."

Sanchez signed his first professional deal last April and spent a brief loan stint at League One’s South Georgia Tormenta FC. He returned to LouCity over the summer and made his First Team debut as a substitute in an Oct. 1 victory at Rio Grande Valley FC.

Sanchez, the son of LouCity Academy Director Mario Sanchez, attended Ballard High School, where he was an all-state selection. He’s one of five City first teamers to have turned pro out of the club’s youth academy joining brothers Elijah and Josh Wynder, Carlos Moguel Jr. and Owen Damm.
