Former Red Bulls II player makes move to Texas for third pro campaign

EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande Valley FC announced today the signing of midfielder Michael Knapp to the club’s 2023 USL Championship roster. The signing is pending league and federation approval.

Knapp has spent the past season in the USL Championship with the New York Red Bulls II. Across two seasons, the 22-year-old appeared in 43 matches and logged 2,349 minutes of action for the side, recording 42 interceptions, 58 tackles and 198 recoveries.

A graduate of the New York Red Bulls Academy ranks in 2017, Knapp competed collegiately for Montclair State University between 2018-19, earning New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie of the year honors in 2018. The following season he locked in yet another award, being named the NJAC Midfielder of the Year.

During his college career, Knapp also competed for the Red Bulls U-23s in USL League Two before joining the professional ranks with the Red Bulls II ahead of the 2021 season.
