OAKLAND, Calif. – Oakland Roots Sports Club announced on Thursday the club had signed United States youth international Ethan Kohler to his first professional contract ahead of the 2023 USL Championship season. The signing is pending league and federation approval.

Kohler was born and raised in Campbell, Calif. in the South Bay and has competed previously for the United States U-19 National Team. The 17-year-old was most recently called up in April of 2022.

“Ethan is an incredibly exciting local young talent,” said Roots SC Technical Director Jordan Ferrell. “His level of maturity for a young player and ability to control a match with the ball will allow him to step in and make an impact for us quickly.”
