ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico United announced on Friday the club had re-signed defender Sam Hamilton ahead of the 2023 USL Championship season, keeping the club original in Black and Yellow for a fifth season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Hamilton has proven a versatile defensive figure for the club in the past four seasons, not only competing on the back line but also stepping into a central midfield position when required. He has made 76 appearances in the Championship across the regular season and playoffs for United, logging 5,630 minutes of action while scoring two goals and one assist.

Defensively, the Denver native has recorded 94 interceptions, 456 recoveries and 109 clearances while posting a duel success rate of 54.3 percent and an aerial duel success rate of 58.3 percent. Hamilton has also consistently led United in ground covered over the course of a match and is a top-five performer in the league in passes allowed per defensive action (PPDA).

Overall, Hamilton ranks seventh in United history with 81 appearances for the club across all competitions.

Prior to joining New Mexico for its inaugural season, Hamilton competed for Phoenix Rising FC in his first professional campaign in 2017 before joining Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC the following year. He has made 108 appearances in his career in the Championship across the regular season and playoffs.
