COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC announced on Saturday the club had signed Canadian midfielder Jay Chapman ahead of the 2023 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

“I’m happy to join the Switchbacks for this upcoming season,” said Chapman. “I heard a lot of great things about the organization and am looking forward to getting started and bringing a title to Colorado. See you soon.” 

Chapman joins the Switchbacks having made more than 100 appearances in Major League Soccer in his career. A product of the Toronto FC Academy, Chapman spent five seasons with Toronto FC, making 79 appearances and scoring six goals, as well as three goals in the USL Championship for Toronto FC II. During his time with TFC, Chapman won MLS Cup and three Canadian Championships and competed in the Concacaf Champions League.

The 29-year-old joined Inter Miami CF ahead of the 2020 season and made 33 appearances for the club over two seasons before joining Scottish Premiership club Dundee FC in 2022.

Before his professional career, Chapman competed collegiately for Michigan State University, where he scored 12 goals in 64 appearances. He was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-America First Team in his junior season, alongside being voted the Big Ten Midfielder of the Year, before signing as a Homegrown Player with Toronto FC.

During his college career, Chapman also competed in USL League Two for K-W United FC, where he made 25 appearances and recorded six goals and five assists over the 2013 and 2014 seasons.
