SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio FC announced on Thursday the club had signed attacking midfielder Kimarni Smith ahead of the 2023 USL Championship season. The signing is pending league and federation approval and per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Smith spent the past two seasons with Major League Soccer’s D.C. United, where he made 20 appearances and notched one goal and one assist in 443 minutes of action. In addition, the 24-year-old competed on loan in the USL Championship for Loudoun United FC and recorded three goals in 29 appearances for the side.

“We are excited to welcome Kimarni to San Antonio. He is an elite athlete who is a two-way player, positionally versatile, excellent in one-versus-one situations and committed to aggressive pressing actions,” said San Antonio Head Coach Alen Marcina. “We look forward to seeing Kimarni's contributions to the team as we collectively strive to defend our title.”

Smith was selected with the No. 4 pick of the 2021 MLS SuperDraft by D.C. after a standout collegiate career at Clemson University. Voted to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference First Team twice in 2019 and 2020, Smith also claimed the 2020 ACC Tournament MVP award with the Tigers. In 2019 he was voted the United Soccer Coaches All-America Second Team and over two seasons recorded 21 goals in 46 appearances.
