COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC announced on Thursday the club had signed Jamaican forward Romario Williams ahead of the 2023 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

“I am truly excited for this upcoming season and looking forward to being a part of the Switchbacks family,” said Williams. “The club has a strong fan base and has laid a solid foundation over the years and I’m just happy to be able to help this talented group of players in the best way I can.”

Williams joins the Switchbacks having competed most recently for fellow USL Championship club New Mexico United. After signing in July, Williams recorded one goal across 10 appearances and three starts. Prior to his arrival in New Mexico, the 28-year-old had been competing overseas, scoring three goals in 10 appearances for Qadsia SC of the Kuwait Premier League, and five goals in 23 appearances for Al Ittihad of the Egyptian Premier League.

A senior Jamaican international, Williams has been a prolific goalscorer in the Championship over his career. He has recorded 41 regular season goals in 94 appearances in the league previously, averaging a goal every 148.4 minutes in his career. He has also recorded two goals and one assists in 15 appearances for Jamaica, including competing for the side in the Concacaf Gold Cup and FIFA World Cup Qualifying.

Additionally, Williams has made 28 appearances in Major League Soccer, recording a pair of goals during stints with Atlanta United FC and the Columbus Crew.

“Romario is a player that has a fifteen to twenty goal potential in this league and has a lot of different high-level experiences,” said GM and Head Coach Brendan Burke. “He is a player we are very happy to be adding to our attacking core for the next few years with this deal.”
