OAKLAND, Calif. – Oakland Roots SC announced on Wednesday the club had signed forward Lindo Mfeka to a new multi-year contract ahead of the 2023 USL Championship season, while also re-signing midfielder Memo Diaz. Both transactions are pending league and federation approval.

Both players are set for their third seasons with Roots SC, with Mfeka coming off a campaign in which he recorded three goals and two assists in 23 appearances while helping Oakland reach the Western Conference Semifinals of the USL Championship Playoffs for a second consecutive campaign.

The South African playmaker has made 120 appearances in the Championship during his career, having previously spent three seasons with Reno 1868 FC. During that time, Mfeka has notched 19 goals and 14 assists in 7,588 minutes of action, while also recording 136 chances created.

Diaz joined Roots SC after two seasons with El Paso Locomotive FC to begin his professional career and this past campaign made 21 appearances for the side. A native of New Mexico, the 27-year-old notched three assists and 16 chances created in the past campaign, and has now made 69 appearances across the Championship’s regular season and playoffs in his career.
