TULSA, Okla. – FC Tulsa announced on Tuesday the club had re-signed midfielder Christopher Pearson ahead of the 2023 USL Championship season, retaining the young Jamaican after his solid performances late in the last campaign. The signing is pending league and federation approval.

The 19-year-old impressed following his professional debut on September 7, going on to make five appearances for FC Tulsa last season. Despite his young age, Pearson demonstrated the ability to exploit his size while commanding the central positions of the pitch defensively and while advancing in possession. Pearson was named a starter in each of FC Tulsa’s final four matches of the season in which the side went 2-1-1.

"Chris has shown he can play at a high level at a young age," said FC Tulsa Head Coach Blair Gavin. "His hunger to improve and his desire to help the team will allow him to reach his full potential."

Despite not registering a goal or assist a season ago, Pearson directly influenced two of his club’s goals via woodwork ricochets. The first occurred on September 10 when Pearson ripped a shot from 20 yards that bounced high off the left post in Hartford and into the path of Darío Suárez to finish. On September 7, Pearson forced Louisville City FC’s Kyle Morton into a full stretch to parry another rocket over the bar, leading to a corner kick on which Adrián Diz Pe scored an 84th-minute equalizer.

Signed from Cavalier FC of the Jamaican National Premier League last July, Pearson was capped five times for Jamaica’s U-20 squad in the CONCACAF U-20 Championship and captained the side twice. Pearson was also selected three times to the senior “Reggae Boyz” roster during the country’s final window of World Cup Qualifying in March of 2022.
