English striker led St. Louis City FC 2 with nine goals in 2022 season, also notched three assists

New Mexico United signing Josh Dolling recorded nine goals and three assists for St. Louis City FC 2 in his first professional campaign, leading the side to MLS NEXT Pro's Western Conference title.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico United announced on Friday the club had signed English forward Josh Dolling ahead of the 2023 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Dolling spent the 2022 campaign with St. Louis City SC 2 of MLS NEXT Pro, where he recorded nine goals and three assists across 25 appearances in all competition. The 24-year-old notched one goal in the postseason, providing the game-winner as St. Louis won the Western Conference with a 2-1 victory against the Tacoma Defiance.

“Josh has a real instinct for bringing others into the game,” said United Head Coach/Technical Director Zach Prince. “His ability to lead the line defensively with his pressing is top end. His physical size and ability to be a target mixed with his ability to make plays around the box make him a consistent threat to score or set the table for others. We look forward to adding Josh to our attacking group.”

Prior to his first professional season in 2022, Dolling had a sterling college career at Missouri State University, where he was voted a three-time United Soccer Coaches All-America selection, including First Team honors in his senior campaign. He also received All-Missouri Valley Conference honors four times as he recorded 26 goals and 16 assists in 82 appearances for the program.

Prior to his move to the United States, Dolling played in the Academy systems of Blackburn Rovers, Manchester United, and Burnley FC in his native England.
