OAKLAND, Calif. – Oakland Roots SC announced on Thursday the club had re-signed defender Tarek Morad ahead of the 2023 USL Championship season, pending league and federation approval. The veteran defender will enter this third season with Roots SC in the new year.

Morad made 30 appearances for Oakland in the past Championship campaign, helping the side reach the Western Conference Semifinals of the USL Championship Playoffs for a second consecutive time. The 30-year-old ranked fifth on the team with 2,559 minutes of action and led Oakland with 127 clearances while also notching 42 interceptions and 19 blocked shots.

A native of Los Angeles, Morad has recorded 193 appearances overall in the Championship during his career across the regular season and playoffs. He made his professional debut in 2014 for OKC Energy FC before making the move to Louisville City FC for its inaugural season the following year. Morad won the USL Championship title with LouCity in 2017 and made 81 appearances for the club over three seasons.

Morad went on to spend two seasons with the Tampa Bay Rowdies before spending the abbreviated 2020 campaign with San Diego Loyal SC. He joined Oakland prior to the 2021 season and has now made 47 appearances for the club in the regular season and playoffs.
